Rummy Guide: Count Remaining Decisions

Players often count cards but forget to count decisions. A hand with several turns left can support exploration; a hand with only one or two meaningful choices needs a narrower plan. Estimate a range rather than pretending to know the exact number.
Compare each route’s requirements with that range. A plan needing three improvements may be reasonable with four decisions left and fragile with two. Include the cost of changing plans: rebuilding groups takes attention and may leave awkward cards. Preserve a fallback as the decision count shrinks.
This is not a command to play conservatively every time. It is a timing tool. Early ambition can be reviewed; late ambition needs stronger evidence. Practice the estimate in replays and compare it with what happened. The purpose is a calmer final phase, not a perfect forecast.
