Rummy FAQ: Is a Repeated Suit Always a Signal?

Does a repeated suit prove another player wants that suit?
No. Several cards from one suit may reflect a plan, but they may also be ordinary leftovers or cards that did not fit another arrangement. A visible pattern is evidence, not a declaration of intent.
When is the clue more useful?
Repetition matters more when it continues across several turns and appears alongside consistent choices. Even then, ask whether the pattern affects your own decision. If taking a card improves a valid route, that direct benefit usually matters more than a theory about another player.
Should I avoid discarding that suit?
Not automatically. Avoiding every card from a suspected suit can distort your hand and cause you to keep weak cards. Consider the card’s value, your routes, and the cost of retaining it. Use language such as “possible preference,” not “certain plan.” Let a pattern inform a close comparison, not dictate every move.
