Rummy Guide: Treat Uncertain Cards as Temporary

An uncertain card is neither a clear keeper nor an automatic discard. Labeling it temporary gives it a limited opportunity to prove its value. When you mark it, identify what would improve it and how long you will wait. The improvement might be a neighbor, a matching rank, or a route that becomes more efficient.
At the review point, compare the card with alternatives. Has it gained a route? Has another card become more useful? Has waiting become expensive because fewer turns remain? If the answer is unfavorable, release it without calling the decision a failure.
Temporary labels turn vague hope into a testable plan. Write “two turns for this bridge,” not “keep for now.” Later review whether the limit was appropriate. The method keeps uncertainty contained: you may explore a possibility, but it receives neither unlimited space nor attention.
